The Art of Mosaics: March 5-April 22, 2010
“The Art of Mosaics”, a juried exhibit, will be shown at the Broomfield Auditorium Gallery in Broomfield, CO between March 5-April 22, 2010. The public is cordially invited to join the artists at a reception on Saturday, April 10, from 1-4 pm at the Gallery.
This exhibit, the first of its kind on the Front Range, includes the work of 13 artists from Denver, Boulder, Golden, Fort Collins and Longmont. These contemporary interpretations of this ancient and enduring medium will shatter any preconceived ideas about mosaics. Finding inspiration in nature, found objects and even the shopping mall, the artists manipulate a variety of traditional and modern materials, from marble to mirror tile, and employ a range of techniques and styles to make statements that engage the mind, delight the eye and inspire contemplation.
The organizer and curator of this exhibit, Colorado Mosaic Artists (CMA), is a non-profit association dedicated to mosaics as fine art, the artistic development of its members and the education of the public. Kathy Thaden, an award winning mosaic artist from Golden, serves as CMA’s President. CMA Vice President and Denver resident Ilona Fried has had her mosaics published in two books, including Mosaic: Finding Your Own Voice (2008) by Brit Hammer. Several of CMA’s members exhibit their work nationally, offer workshops locally and belong to the Society of American Mosaic Artists. The group welcomes mosaic artists at all levels from across the state.
Exhibiting Artists: Grace Blowers, Barbara Cohen, Ilona Fried, Gretchen Hill, Kaye Iverson, Lynnette Kupferer, Jean McBride, Kat Peters-Midland, Patricia Monroe, Rita Schelin, Jane Sullivan, Jen Tarr, Kathy Thaden.
